REDIAL (external link, opens in a new window) is the European network of libraries, archives, and documentation centers with collections related to Latin America and the Caribbean. The network was founded in 1988 with the aim of making information on Latin America and the Caribbean available in Europe, thereby supporting European research on these regions. For this reason, REDIAL (external link, opens in a new window) works closely with the Consejo Europeo de Investigaciones Sociales sobre América Latina European (CEISAL (external link, opens in a new window)). The network currently includes institutions from Spain, France, Germany, and Sweden.
In addition to Christoph Müller representing the IAI, the new REDIAL Executive Board includes Cristina Borràs from Casa Amèrica Catalunya (external link, opens in a new window), Barcelona (Vice-President), Felipe del Pozo from the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (external link, opens in a new window), Sevilla (Secretary General), Joakim Lilljegren from the Göteborgs Universitetsbibliotek (external link, opens in a new window) (Treasurer), and Caroline Abéla from the Centre de Diffusion Scientifique REGARDS-UMR Passages-CNRS (external link, opens in a new window) in Bordeaux (Member).
“The central challenge in the new term,” said newly elected President Christoph Müller (IAI), “is, in light of funding cuts in the academic sector—which often lead to the integration of specialized collections on Latin America and the Caribbean into central libraries or archives— to stabilize the network and, by joining efforts, develop new formats to make regional knowledge accessible and appropiately prepared for research, including research that is strongly discipline-oriented.”
The IAI congratulates the newly elected REDIAL Board and expressly supports its initiatives.
