The events of the IAI

The Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI) organizes a wide range of cultural and academic events that take place on the institute’s premises and online, but also regularly as guest events at partner institutions in Berlin/Germany and worldwide.

The multilingual program of events ranges from readings, lectures, discussion rounds, symposia, and conferences to film screenings, concerts, and exhibitions. Since its founding, the IAI has seen its cultural mediation activities, which are closely related to the individual fields of work at the institute, as a central component of its mission. These activities provide insights into its collections, projects, and research activities to a broader public.

The events focus on Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal as well as the relationships between them and with other regions of the world (especially Germany and Europe). In thematic series and focal points, they address central topics and developments and deal with them in different formats and from different perspectives. This also includes the role of Germany and Europe in the world and their relations with the countries of the Global South.

In its events, the Institute brings together different fields of knowledge, cultural perspectives, actors and institutions. It thus creates spaces for intercultural and transcultural dialog and interaction in which new formats of cooperation, participation and communication are tested and established. The event program is the result of cooperation with a broad spectrum of partners from academia, culture and politics from Berlin, Germany and abroad and contributes to the expansion and strengthening of the networks of the Institute and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation as a whole.
