The Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI) is a multidisciplinary non-university institution in the humanities, cultural and social sciences. As an area studies institution, it has a regional focus - Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal - and also takes transregional interrelationships into account. It therefore has a genuinely international orientation. The equal combination of different areas of work under one roof - collections, research and events - is what makes the institute so special. As a knowledge archive, the IAI houses Europe's largest and the world's second largest library on Ibero-America as well as special collections relevant to research.
