Training
Training for the higher library service
The Library of the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI) is a federal training library for academic librarians. Based on the regulation on the career, training and examination for the higher service at federal academic libraries (LAP-hDBiblV) of October 25, 2001, the IAI trains one library trainee per year.
The application period is between February and May, with the position starting on October 1 of each year.
The two-year training program consists of a practical component in the IAI library and shorter phases at other libraries. During this time, the trainee also completes the Master's program in Library and Information Science at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (external link, opens in a new window). The training is a civil service position and is subject to revocation. There is no guarantee that the trainee will be hired after the training.

Internships
The Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI) offers internships in the following areas:
- Library
- Research
- Special collections
For longer-term internships, combinations between the areas are possible.
Types of internships:
- Required internships: Required internships are prescribed by the training or study regulations during a training or study program. The assignment and duration depend on the respective training or study regulations.
- Sponsored internships: Other internships within the frame of a qualification scheme are possible after the positive verification of the necessary requirements through the human resources department.
Voluntary internships and internships for general orientation purposes after graduation or a finalized training qualification are not possible at the IAI.
Applying for an internship
To apply for an internship at the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut, you must have a good knowledge of German. Applicants who are not citizens of a member state of the European Union also require a work permit.

- Curriculum vitae (please indicate language and computer skills)
- Information on which internship category the application is for.
