Trees are a great place to come together for events and so the tree nursery invites visitors to a varied program of events throughout the year. On June 18, the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut contributed a reading with a sound performance.
The event, entitled "El lago brillante - Der lichte See" , (The bright lake) was inspired by the cycles of water. The reading and sound performance explored living natural landscapes and the rhythm and processes of nature.
The poet Cristian Forte from Argentina read a selection of his poems inspired by the tropical rainforests of Latin America. Cristian Forte is a poet and visual artist. In his work, he deals with transmediality and intertextuality in literature and sound and with the relationships between private and public space. The German version of the poems was read by the translator Laura Haber, who translated them from Spanish into German.
The musician Camila Nebbia expressed the associations of wind and water on the saxophone and incorporated the sounds of the nearby building site into her improvisation, so that even these sounded almost natural. The saxophonist, composer, visual artist and curator, who also comes from Argentina, is a multidisciplinary artist who explores concepts of identity, migration and memory. Her work includes improvised and composed music and audiovisual performances that combine different artistic practices.
A sound collage conceived by Cristian Forte consisting of natural sounds - sounds of lakes, forests and birds of Latin America - from the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut's Audio Library transported listeners to distant tropical forests. The Audio Library's collection not only reflects the musical diversity of the countries of Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal in countless musical recordings of various genres. It also includes nature sounds, ethnographic recordings and much more.
The Baumschule Kulturforum (external link, opens in a new window) is a freely accessible, artistic and horticultural spatial installation by the landscape architects from atelier le balto, which has been making a green statement since 2023. It consists of 200 trees in troughs, which green the predominantly sealed open space on Johanna-und-Eduard-Arnholdplatz/Matthäikirchplatz and Scharounplatz as well as the grassy traffic circle in front of St. Matthäus-Kirche (St.Matthew's Church) in several islands. The trees provide shade and create green oases that invite people to linger. They give an idea of what a green cultural forum could and should look like. The accompanying wooden seating creates public places where people can simply get together and meet.
The Baumschule Kulturforum (external link, opens in a new window) brings together many local institutions. It is a project of the Stiftung St. Matthäus (external link, opens in a new window) in cooperation with the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK, Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (external link, opens in a new window)), the Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker (external link, opens in a new window) and the Neue Nationalgalerie (external link, opens in a new window) under the artistic direction of its director Klaus Biesenbach and the landscape architects from atelier le balto (external link, opens in a new window). The project is funded by the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt (external link, opens in a new window) (Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion) of the City of Berlin and the Beauftragter der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM, Federal Government (external link, opens in a new window)
