Mario Vargas Llosa and the IAI

In memory of the recently deceased Peruvian author and Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa, a small showcase exhibition is currently presented in the reading room of the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut.

Mario Vargas Llosa (1936 – 2025) visited the IAI in person several times. Among other ocasions, in 1997 for research work on his novel La fiesta del chivo (2000) and in 2005 as a keynote speaker for the 75th anniversary of the Institute. The display cases commemorate his visits to Berlin, his literary work and the reception and translation of his work in Germany. Curious visitors can get an impression of the variety of material from the Library, the Special Collections and the Institute`s archive.
