Zimmerman, Günter (1914-1972)

The German americanist and ethnologist Günter Zimmermann initially worked at the Hamburg State and University Library, where he was responsible for the special department for Latin American cultures (Linga Library). From 1962, he took part in the German-Mexican Puebla-Tlaxcala project. From 1965-1972 he taught and researched at the University of Hamburg. His research focused on the writing and language systems of Mesoamerica (Maya hieroglyphs) and ethnohistory.

Material

  • 1 capsule containing small-format reproductions of “Annales de Domingo de San Anton de Muñon Chimalpahin,” with handwritten marginal notes.
  • 3 capsules containing copies, handwritten drafts, index cards.
  • 29 books, presumably from the private library, mainly on central Mexico and ancient Maya.
