Schumann, Peter B. (1941-)

The journalist Peter B. Schumann worked on Latin American cinema since the 1960s and was interested in political developments. As editor of the magazine Alternative and a member of the Berlin Film Festival's management team, he shaped the discussions of the New Left and the selection of Latin American films for the film festival. In 1971, he published his first book on Latin American film (Film und Revolution in Lateinamerika) and in 1989 co-founded the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Since 2002, he has been involved in the board of the Friends of the Ibero-American Institute. His numerous radio features shed light on the work of Latin American directors and writers, political transformations, resistance to dictatorships, and the effects of neoliberalism in Latin America, among other topics.
