Ambassador of the Republic of Panama on inaugural visit to IAI

On April 1, 2025, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Panama, H.E. Vladimir A. Franco Sousa, paid a visit to the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI). Director Barbara Göbel showed him around the institute, presented him holdings on Panama and exchanged views with him on the scientific and cultural relations between Germany and Panama.

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Panama to Germany, H.E. Vladimir A. Franco Sousa (external link, opens in a new window), visited the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI, Ibero-American Institute) on April 1, 2025, accompanied by Alex Espino (Third Secretary) and Lerys Lobo de Holzhaenger (Commercial Attaché). Barbara Göbel (Director of the IAI) and Christoph Müller (Deputy Library Director of the IAI and Director Collections Central America) showed them around the institute, explained its areas of work and gave an insight to the multimedia holdings of the library and the Special Collections on Panama. In addition to books, magazines, newspapers and databases, these include image documents, maps, sound recordings, estates, posters and graphics. The subsequent working discussion focused on the academic and cultural relations between Germany and Panama. A further focus was Panama's historical role as a hub of transregional relations, encompassing the Pacific and the Atlantic, as well as North and South America.
