In 1925, the Paraguayan composer José Asunción Flores created a musical genre that was to have a profound impact on Paraguay's identity: the guarania. Characterized by lyricism, a profound melody and a calm tempo that evokes the nostalgia and beauty of the Paraguayan landscape, the guarania has become a symbol of Paraguay's culture and way of life.

In the guarania, indigenous and european influences combine to create a unique sonority that bears witness to the country's history. Renowned artists from Paraguay and Latin America have interpreted it. The transmission of this music is alive  and plays a central role in the country's everyday life - at celebrations, family gatherings and cultural events.

In December 2024, Guarania was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With this concert we celebrate the 100th anniversary of this emblematic musical genre.
