Our current services for you

In view of the development of the pandemic situation, the “2G” rules are compulsory from Wednesday, Dec 8 for access to the IAI reading room: proof of full vaccination protection or recovery (the later not older than six months).

This applies to the lending and return of media as well as to the stay in the Reading Room, e.g. at your reserved table.

Please show your electronic or printed proof of 2G at the IAI entrance. 

Furthermore, wearing an FFP2 mask is obligatory during the entire stay in the Reading Room. Both measures serve to protect all visitors and staff.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in the implementation of these measures.


Reading room opening hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Service hours to borrow and return media: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Reservation of a table in two time slots: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Your reservations are still valid and you have the option of using our extended opening hours.


Reading Room: Due to social distancing rules, only be a small number of tables are currently available in the reading room. Therefore, it is necessary to make reservations in advance.  You can reserve a table for 8 a.m.-2 p.m. or for 3 p.m.-10 p.m. The reservation system can be found here.

The scanners are available again.

Access to the reading room: FFP2 masks are compulsory for access and use of the reading room. If you are not able to wear a FFP2 mask, unfortunately you will not be able to use the reading room.

Borrowing / Returning Media: You do not need to make an appointment to borrow and/or return media at the front desk. However, the above conditions for access to the reading room apply.
