Sapper, Karl Theodor (1866-1945)

Karl Theodor Sapper was a German geologist who specialized in volcanology. From 1888 to 1900 and from 1923 to 1924 Sapper travelled all over Central America. He toured Guatemala in 1902-1903, 1927-1928 and 1937-1938. During these trips he carried out geological studies, focusing on volcanology, geography and the economy, as well as conducting research on archaeology, ethnology and ethnolinguistics (specializing in the Kekchi language in Guatemala).
