Hans Joachim von Merkatz was a German lawyer and politician. From 1938 to 1945 Merkatz was secretary general of the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin. From 1949 to 1969 he held posts in various federal ministries.
