Gewecke, Frauke (1943-2012)
German Romanist and Hispanist Frauke Gewecke was Professor of Romance Literature and Cultural Studies (specializing in Latin America and the Caribbean) at the Romance Seminar of Heidelberg University from 1984 to 2008. She shaped Latin American and Caribbean studies in research and teaching at German universities and promoted the connection between European and Latin American/Caribbean cultural and literary studies. Many of her publications are considered standard works in literary and cultural studies on Latin America and the Caribbean. Gewecke was co-founder and co-editor of the journal IBEROAMERICANA.
