Wertz, Armin (1945 -2020)
Armin Wertz (1945-2020) was a German author and journalist. He studied Economics, Politics and Mathematics at the Free University of Berlin. Since 1976 Wertz worked as a journalist for the magazines "Stern", "Spiegel", the newspapers"Frankfurter Rundschau" and the "Tagesanzeiger" (Zurich), among other things as a foreign correspondent in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (1980-1990), in Israel, and in the new millenium in Southeast Asia. Wertz also wrote articles for various German and international news magazines, published books and participated in documentaries. The focus of his work lies on political features.
The photos that Armin Wertz donated to the Ibero-American Institute were taken in the contextof his work as a foreign correspondent in Latin America (1980-1990). The research pictures mainly show political events and personalities from politics and society from various Central American and Caribbean countries. Particularly extensive are the photographs of the civil war in El Salvador in the 1980s.
