“Discovering” Latin America: Insights into our collections for bachelor students from the Freie Universität Berlin

In May, we had the opportunity to welcome a group of Bachelor students from the Department of Romance Studies from the Free University of Berlin. The tour was specially tailored to the interests of the course "`Discovering´ Latin America - from 1492 to the present day".

During the event, we explored materials from our Special collections and library holdings together. Particular highlights included facsimiles of historical maps from the 16th century, important film classics on the "Discovery of America" and older editions of well-known works, such as the "Brevísima relación de la destruición de las Indias" by Bartolomé de las Casas. Of course, current specialist literature was also included.

The insight into our holdings offered a diverse perspective on the history and present of Latin America and encouraged a lively exchange between librarians, students and teaching staff.
