During the Portuguese colonial war against the independence movements in Angola, Guinea and Mozambique (1961-1974), African soldiers were recruited to fight in the Portuguese military, so that Africans fought against Africans both for and against the independence of the colonies. In the award-winning documentary"Por ti, Portugal, eu juro!" ('For you, Portugal, I take my oath!') by Sofia de Palma Rodrigues and Diogo Cardoso (2024, 1 h, 38 min.), former African elite soldiers from Comando special units in Guinea have their say and talk about their service as Portuguese in the colonial war and how Portugal abandoned them to their fate after the independence of Guiné-Bissau. Original Portuguese and Creole with English subtitles.
