On the occasion of the exhibition Lygia Clark: Retrospective, on view until 12 October 2025, the Neue Nationalgalerie invites visitors to a summer evening of performances, literature, music, and food on its iconic terrace.
Titled Proposições—a term Lygia Clark used for her interactive works—the event celebrates the lasting influence of the Brazilian artist’s practice, particularly on younger generations. Two Berlin-based Brazilian artists will present new performative works that draw on Clark’s interactive and participatory approach:
- Matheus Rocha Pitta: Primeira Pedra (First Stone) (2015–2025)
Throughout the day, visitors are invited to bring a small stone found in the street and exchange it for a specially cast sculpture by the artist. These objects will be presented on the terrace of the Mies van der Rohe building. - Dudu Quintanilha: Sun of Tomorrow (2025)
Performed together with Leonard Ramm, this new duet improvisation examines proximity, waiting, and the imagination of hope. The performance will take place at 16:00, 18:00, and 20:00.
The Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut, located near the museum, contributes a literary element to the program: At 18:30, Luna Cruz Grünbauer (Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch)will read selected texts by Brazilian author Clarice Lispector (lecture in German).
From 16:00 onwards, food and drink vendors will offer Brazilian and international specialties.
With the kind support of the Brazilian Embassy and the Guimarães Rosa Institute.
The work by Matheus Rocha Pitta is on loan from the Pinacoteca de São Paulo.
