Library and Reading Room Cards

Who can borrow books?

The library of the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) is open to all interested users. There are two types of user cards: If you are resident in Germany, you may borrow books for home use (Library card). We make materials available to all other users in the reading room (Reading room card).

Minors over 16 years old and with their parents' consent are allowed to obtain a Library card or a Reading room card. Please contact us at info@iai.spk-berlin.de

What does a user card cost and how long is it valid?

The library card for external lending and the reading room card are free of charge and valid for 1 year.

How do I apply for a user card?

To register as a user, please fill out this form https://www.iai.spk-berlin.de/apps/

To pick up your card bring your ID, passport or electronic driving license to the service desk. If you are resident in Germany, please bring your address registration certificate (Meldebestätigung).

During the Service Hours (Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) our staff will issue you a user card immediately.
