Kahlo, Guillermo (1871-1941)

The photographer Guillermo Kahlo – Frieda Kahlo's father – immigrated from Pforzheim to Mexico in 1890 and became famous for his pictures of factories and buildings, some of which were commissioned by companies and the state.
The twenty-seven black-and-white photographs in the possession of the Ibero-American Institute include not only images of factories and machines ("Fundidora de Fierro y Acero de Monterrey S.A." and "Fábrica de Cerillos La Central") but also thirteen interior and exterior shots of churches from around 1920 ("Iglesias de México").
