Information for Librarians

The library of the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) is the largest collection in Europe focusing on the Ibero-American and Caribbean region. It is the third largest such library worldwide after the Library of Congress in Washington and the Nettie Lee Benson Collection at the University of Texas at Austin.

It is often difficult to acquire literature from Latin America because national bibliographies do not exist or their publication is delayed. In addition, copies are often printed in small numbers, and the region lacks an effective bookstore network.

We are pleased to help colleagues from other libraries who have questions about acquisitions and the book market in this region.

A publication entitled "Das Buchwesen in Lateinamerika" (The Library System in Latin America) is currently in preparation.
