Collection Development
Budget for Acquisitions
In addition to its regular acquisitions budget, the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) receives special funding from the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) to expand its collections. It is also the recipient of third-party funds from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) for the special collection field of Ibero-America.
Monographs and Periodicals
Print media continue to be the focus of use and acquisitions at the IAI library. Acquisition figures have remained stable and strong over the past few years, partially due to the large number of donations. The digital information media are systematically developed.
Price Developments
Calculating the average price for monographs enables comparisons between export book dealers in a single country and between book prices being paid on the market as a whole. Further, average prices provide a point of reference when staff are preparing acquisition trips.
Databases
The IAI library offers its users the most important databases for the Ibero-American cultural region. It also makes available databases acquired in conjunction with national licenses.
Microforms
Over the past few years, the IAI has acquired and is progressively indexing extensive microform collections. It provides numerous monographs and periodicals that can no longer be purchased on the market or that can be purchased only with great difficulty.
