Günter Vollmer (1937–2022)

Günter Vollmer was a German historian. He studied history and German language and literature in Münster and Cologne and wrote his doctoral thesis on population development in the Spanish colonial empire. From 1965–1973, Vollmer was involved in the “Mexiko-Projekt der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft” (“Mexico Project of the German Research Foundation” or “Puebla-Tlaxcala Project”; 1962–1978). From 1974–2001 he was a research assistant at the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI). He published several articles on the history of the IAI and catalogued various estates, including that of the Quesadas. He was editor of the journal Ibero-Amerikanisches Archiv (now Iberoamericana).
