The collection contains 5,000 posters, featuring a range of topics – from bull fights in Spain and elections in Nicaragua, to health campaigns in Brazil.
The poster collection is indexed in a catalog which is located in the IAI’s map reading room. The posters cannot be taken out on loan. If you wish to view them, please arrange an appointment in advance.
Health posters from Brazil
The collection of 50 posters dates from 1930 to 1940 during the presidency of Getúlio Dornelles Vargas (1882-1954). The posters aimed to alert people to the dangers of infectious diseases, promote a healthy diet and dental hygiene, and raise awareness of the importance of breast milk.
Film posters from Mexico
The period from 1936 to 1969 saw the production of numerous outstanding and commercially successful films and has been dubbed the “golden era of Mexican film”. The Ibero-American Institute (IAI) has a collection of over 60 large-format posters dating from 1946 to 1950, which use a mixture of vibrant colors to promote Mexican films.
Due to construction works you need to make an appointment to get access to the Map Collection, Poster Collection, Art Prints and Illustrations Archive and the Newspaper Clippings Collection. We apologize for the inconvenience.
