Reading Global? Methods, Problems and Contents of Cultural Transfers in Literature
Tagung "Trayectorias / Flugbahnen: Musik zwischen Lateinamerika und Europa 1945-1970"

Gesine Müller

Vortrag

A debate over the concept of World Literature requires, above all, that eurocentric perspec-tives be revised by a comprehensive understanding of transfer processes and that categories of knowledge be tested for their relevance in an international context. We have on the one side a wealth of individual descriptive studies of selection processes in the globalized publishing world, and on the other side an abundance of theoretical formulations making programmatic claims about the concept of World Literature. Prof. Dr. Gesine Müller (Uni-versität zu Köln) will argue that "Reading Global" aims to integrate these two sides. To this end, the case of Latin American literatures serves as an example, inasmuch as it represents the challenge of a revised understanding of literatures of the world, one that aims to call into question Eurocentric dispositions.
