Glimpses of Brazil

Annual focus 2013 - 2014

Made in Brazil: In recent years, Brazil has become a major player on the global stage. In Germany this has led to a surge in public interest in the country, illustrated by Brazil’s status as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2013. May will also see the launch of the German federal government’s initiative “Germany + Brazil 2013-2014. Where Ideas Connect” (“Deutschland und Brasilien 2013-2014. Wo Ideen sich verbinden”), involving a variety of cultural and academic activities in Brazil designed to foster transatlantic dialogue and the exchange of ideas. Being a partner of this initiative the Ibero-American Institute is organizing 2013 - 2014 the annual focus “GLIMPSES of Brazil” (flyer). In its annual focus the Institute has joined forces with the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of Brazil and the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional as well as with various partners from the academic and cultural fields. This is in order to hold a wide variety of events, ranging from readings, presentations and symposia, to film screenings and exhibitions, all aimed at portraying the many different sides of Brazil and demonstrating the diversity and contradictions of South America’s most populous land. The program will present both familiar and previously unseen glimpses of Brazil.
