Daily Newspapers
Since 2004 the library of the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) has been collecting daily newspapers on a large scale from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal, an endeavor supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation). These acquisitions supplement the materials available in the special collection field of "daily newspapers" at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library).
The IAI collects the complete run of at least one newspaper from each country. The materials are indexed in the online catalog and the ZDB database. The newspapers can be read on library premises, and if they are available on microfilm, they can also be ordered through the interlibrary loan system. There are several reader-printers in the library's reading room for volumes available on microfilm. Current issues can also be viewed in the online newspaper reading room of the cibera virtual library, which specializes in Ibero-America, Spain and Portugal.
